Review: Plain Sight

Plain Sight

First off I want to say that this game will give you alot of “WAIT WHAT?!” and “Where am I? What am I doing?” moments when you play it for the first time.
What this game is basically about is bumping into other players (robots) stealing their energy and then blowing yourself up. For each player you kill you always get atleast 1 energy and you also steal all the energy they have stolen, if they have any.

Team Deatchmatch!

Now, why is this game interesting you ask. Thats where the playground comes in. You play in some kind op outer-space low-gravity scene. Pretty much everything is coloured grey and as you jump around (because thats what you do) you leave a bright coloured trail. This is so that players can track eachother down and jump into eachother. Still not so special you think. Well as you jump around the whole world will shift with you, giving you a mad case of vertigo.

Boom! Points for me!

If you jump forward of a tower the world will shift and you will land on the side of a that tower, where as you would normally land on the ground! Very confusing at times and most of the time you really don’t know where you are going to land or where you are going. Combine this with players chasing eachother down at very high speed, and its truly a blast!
When you steal energy from either players or powerups and blow yourself up you get points. In the deathmatch mode you need these points to win but you can also buy upgrades with them.

The Plain Sight upgrade screen

The upgrades include; higher speed, faster detonation, a user-triggered shield and many more including super-powerups. One drawback is that the upgrades aren’t permanent and are resetted everytime you join a new game. Get kicked out by a connection problem, too bad. I guess this is a balance thing, to give everyone a fair chance. Speaking of balance. The game has a nice way to reward better players while at the same time making it harder for them.

+5 energy yay!

The more energy you steal from the other ninja robots (players) the bigger you get and the bigger and brighter your trail gets. And seeing that when you kill someone you get all their energy, everyone will start to hunt you! So while you are bigger you are also faster and stronger but at the same time everyone is after you. And with the chaos in this game you can’t really watch your back (even with the spider-sense like upgrade its hard).

Graphics wise its not very impressive, it looks very slick and is well polished but thats not very hard when most of the game are grey blocks. Still not a game-breaker though! It is pretty refreshing too.

Conclusion:

A very fun game, very innovative. Its too bad not many people play it! I think that it because its a vey twitchy game and can be pretty frustrating at times too!
