Graphics
Let’s start off with a big plus. Oh my god! The graphics are awesome on this game. I admit that you cannot scale/specify a whole lot but you don’t have to. Even on my laptop it runs as smooth as a baby’s ass, with pretty much everything on standard. The environments are very lush and dynamic, wide open savannah plains are clustered with plants and wildlife, it’s stunning. A minor casualty is the view distance, you can look very far in theory but you will see some build-up / rendering when approaching a mountain or trees. Furthermore the weapons and armor sets are awesome looking, the monsters look dope, the village and towns are cool. It’s all there and it looks pretty damn good.
Need some getting used to! It has a pretty steep learning curve to make the character do what you want smoothly. At least, I got to say this, for a game in this day and age. Hardcore gamers who experienced some of the earlier RPG’s will say it’s not hard to control. It’s just that most games nowadays take hardly any brain-activity at all (not that that’s always a bad thing though). When you run and suddenly stop your character has to lose the momentum and that can be a big annoying if you are not used to it.
Also mounting an dismounting a horse is a pain sometime ‘cause the mount button is the same as the jump button. My horse gives me weird look when I’m jumping up and down next to it. So I ran the cocky beast of a cliff (I actually did. Not on purpose though… Let’s just say it “slipped”). Another thing which had me puzzled and googling a while is how to use certain skills. For example let’s take the “Shield Bash” skill and how to assign it to a hotkey. ‘Cause that what you do with skills, right? Assign them to a hotkey? Wrong. Some skill (like Shield Bash) don’t have to be / can’t be mapped to a hotkey. It automatically becomes active when you block with your shield. Handy, yet at the same time sometimes frustrating and un-needed. Overall it plays very nice and after a bit of practice you’ll be flying around the game-world like a maniac.
GameplayMy favorite part to cover! The gameplay is diverse and fun. I put 6 hours in this game already and am not planning to stop soon, hell it’s even keeping me away from Black Ops and that says a lot! It’s just so cool do to the quests, the storyline is awesome and the feel of the game is very good. People swear, behave and react like they would in real life. Some characters are psychopaths (like the master-thief Mirage) and some are docile villagers.
I’ll let you in on a little secret; my favorite offline RPG of all time is Oblivion and this game gives me about the same feeling (the controls are a way different but the feeling is the same). It’s nice that the quests in the game are not lame copies of each other with “gather this” and “kill 10 of these” objectives. Almost every quest is different. From investing in a blacksmith store to gathering dragon scales in a musky, thankfully abandoned, lair. Fighting monsters is fun and you can (don’t really have to) use a lot of tactics, blocking blows actually work and the fighting animations are awesome. The actual gameplay is what makes this game so darn fun and addicting.
Sounds
In all honesty, 9 out of 10, speech dialogues suck. It’s like everyone had their emotions ripped out and can only talk like they are uninterested + the main character is stoned the whole game. Ok that might be a bit exaggerative but still, it could be a lot more lively and dynamic! Two Worlds III needs better voice actors; sign the petition here at Galagogame!
The combat and ambient sounds are all there and there all good. The swords go clink-shing! The maces go bof-brack! Fire crackles and wind howls. It’s all good.
Buy it?
If you like the genre; yes you should buy it! You don’t want to miss out on this one. If you do not like the genre I think you will be better off with a game like Dragon Age or Oblivion. Since it’s new and still going for the full price you might want to wait a bit till a price drop for this one. But it’s a very good game, It will amuse you for a lot of hours (straight). As they say in the gaming world: “Amuse me or lose me”, this game does the job.

Dragon Age 2 is going to be much more action and much less RPG based! But this may be your thing Iamdude! Why not support the smaller developer now and then see how DA2 turns out at the end of the year?! If we don’t support the smaller companies, where is the innovation going to come from, and who’s going to do this hardcore RPG’s?
According to Bioware Dragon Age is an RPG and yet it only has fast travel! Imagine Oblivion or two Worlds II were there was no exploration, just fast travel between the main quest points! Well, that’s Dragon Age, and who would of thought the makers of cRPG’s like Baldur’s Gate and Planescape Torment would ever release a so-called RPG with fast travel only!
Hmm, I might get this after the price drops a bit, I’m always looking for the next good RPG. Maybe it’ll tide me over until Dragon Age 2 drops. And your horse ‘slipped’ huh? I gather those cliffs can be quite slippery, and tricky to navigate:P
